A Registered Mental Nurse by background, Dean has experience of working in many areas of health and social care and specialised in Forensic Mental Health.

For the last 5 years Dean has worked as a Programme Manager within the Eastern Development centre leading on development and improvement initiatives across several policy areas. More specifically this has entailed working strategically across the region to implement government policy and meet legislative requirements.

Previously Dean has occupied a number of management positions within Essex Trusts. Within North Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust he was the Service Manager responsible for all mental health services in the borough of Harlow ranging from acute admission wards to the occupational therapy service. This included managing approximately 200 staff with a budget of £6.5m. At South Essex Foundation Trust he was responsible for the effective management of the specialist teams within the mental health service of Basildon. This included Psychiatric Intensive Care, A&E Mental Health Liaison and Community Rehabilitation and also responsible for the effective running of acute and forensic services across the Trust. This was a large and challenging portfolio with a strong focus on safety, risk management and service improvement

Dean is an experienced senior NHS leader who has availed himself of a wide range of developmental pathways, including a Diploma in Management Studies and the renowned Top Manager's Programme.  He is also a PRINCE2 and MSP Practitioner.
